Guitar Ace - Link Wray Tribute

MuSick Recordings
Song: Jack the Ripper

One of my all-time favorite surf-instro bands, Pollo Del Mar, serves up justice to the Wrayman on "Jack the Ripper." This is one of his greatest songs ever recorded.
Music Dish - Keith Hannaleck

For A Few Guitars More - Ennio Morricone Tribute

Dancing Bear
Song: Navajo Joe

...Other remarkable tracks include Pollo del Mar's tongue-in-cheek "Navajo Joe," slyly sneaking a lick from the Shadows' "Apache" into the mix.
Creative Loafing Atlanta - Gregory Nicoll

Pollo Del Mar use distant feedback and sustain to create an eerie and sullen danger. The tribal drums and emotionally smooth bass lay the groundwork under the two guitars for a complete production. They close out with a couple of lines from "Hiawatha" and "Apache." Magnificent! *****(5 Stars)

Chinese Checkers - A Tribute to Booker T. and the MGs

Wildebeest Records
Song: Time Is Tight

...Some of the hottest up-and-coming names on the guitar based surf-rock scene are on hand here including Pollo Del Mar (with a spell-binding cover of "Time Is Tight.")
20th Century Guitar - Robet Silverstein

Opening with a marvelous decaying delayed guitar chord, this quickly drops into a solid version with most unusual drums and a great quirky arrangement. This is not one of my fave Booker T. and the MG's tracks, but this version has immense charm. Great stuff. **** (4 Stars)

Surfin' Senorita - A Tribute to Herb Alpert

Wildebeest Records
Song: South of the Border

There just ain't no getting around the spectacular sound of Pollo Del Mar. Their twin guitar attack straddles dissonant discordant edge and pristine shimmering joy. This is totally tubular, happy and free of borders. The second half drops into a very cool hand clap rhythm and bass thing with much suavity. Way cool. ****(4 Stars)
